Dynolicious F.A.Q.

Postby JonS on Thu Apr 23, 2009 3:32 pm

Q: Will you make Dynolicious for [insert your platform here]
A: At this time, we are porting Dynolicious to the Blackberry Storm. We currently do not have plans to support any other platform. The best way to convince us to port Dynolicious to something else is to visit our forum and show your support.

Please don't send support requests for us to port Dynolicious, use the forum.

Q: Calibration gets stuck.
A: This is a common problem with the new iPod touch (technically the accelerometers are very noisy and Dynolicious sees it as vibration). We have adjusted our code in Dynolicious 2.1 to allow for this condition.

Q: Can I use Dynolicious on a motorcycle, boat, bike, etc?
A: Dynolicious works best on a vehicle that is "running" on a level surface, so any change of orientation while testing will invalidate the results. Using Dynolicious on a motorcycle, bike, or go-cart should work. Using Dynolicious on a boat probably won't work.

Q: Are metric units supported in Dynolicious?
A: Yes! Dynolicious v1.1 added support for metric units. Speeds can be reported in km/h, power in kW, and weight can be entered in kg.

Q: Will Dynolicious work on my iPod Touch or 1.1.4 iPhone?
A: Dynolicious will run with all features on iPhone (classic or 3G) or iPod Touch running 2.2 firmware.

Q: How can I delete test results or vehicles?
A: Tap the edit button, then tap the "-" button next to the item you wish to delete.

Q: What is the best way to mount the iPhone when testing?
A: Mounting is a concern for accurate results. Unfortunately, mounting is very vehicle-dependent. On some cars, a cupholder is fine, as long as the iPhone is wedged pretty well and does not move around. For in-house testing, we have a cradle which mounts to the windshield with suction cups. This took a bit of custom work to set up, but does the job nicely. Any off-the-shelf cradle which fits the iPhone should work, as long as it holds the iPhone facing the front of the car, and does not bounce around.

Ram Mounts makes several quality mounts for the iPhone (even mounts for motorcycles) http://www.ram-mount.com/

Q: Where is the manual?
A: The full Dynolicious manual can be found in the setup tab, or by viewing the manual online at http://www.dynolicious.com/docs/manual_2_0_0/index.php.

Q: The application crashes when I try to edit My Ride. What gives?
A: This seems to exclusively be an issue with jailbroken phones. If you are not using a jailbroken phone and are experiencing this issue, please let us know. We do not officially support jailbroken devices, however we have been informed by some users that updating to the latest jailbroken software will correct the problem. Specifically, it seems that using Cydia to get the latest SQLite library will allow Dynolicious to work.

Q: I export high res graphics, but they are saved as low res.
A: The internal photo display (which is also used for emailing), scales the graphics to 800x600 images. You need to sync your iPhone to your computer and use iPhoto (or a PC alternative) to pull the high resolution images off the iPhone.

Apparently the iPhone OS 2.2 update has broken image exports. Some charts will be exported as thumbnail resolution instead of normal resolution. This was fixed as part of the OS 2.2.1 update, and also part of Dynolicious 2.1.
